The 4th of July began with Dan's Gaelic class. Students learned to ask each other out on dates in Gaelic. It was very amusing. Dan said there was only a 20% success rate for acceptance. Fiona was the only one that said yes. Ba maith le Fiona dul go dti an pictiurlann le Tom=Fiona would like to go to the movies with Tom. In Irish history, the students learned about the plantations. Irish studies was dedicated to a quiz where students had to name all 32 counties on a map of Ireland. Alyssa, Evan, Jenny and Sasha were the only ones to receive a perfect score. Congratulations! They received Cork flags for their hard work. Instead of Irish history, students went to the Waterford Crystal Factory. Here they learned the process of how to make beautiful crystal. Zoe said it was amazing. She couldn't believe it takes ten years of to become a Master Cutter for Waterford Crystal. After students had finished the tour and browsed through the gift shop, they had the option of free time in Waterford or taking the Scone Baking or the Waterford Walking Tour Workshops. All of the girls took Edel's Scone Baking Workshop. She shared her great granny's secret recipe from Galway and MC said she was surprised how easy they were to make. A few said they can't wait to make scones for their families in the states. Fiona, MC, Molly, and Sallie said they made heart shaped scones-sprinkled with sugar. The girls were eventually able to reap the awards of their labor after dinner and were amazed by how delicious their treats had turned out. A few of them were nice and even let the boys sample. Fiona and Sallie said they are contemplating going into a scone baking business in the states and are considering giving Edel a cut of the profit. Levi's famous Waterford Walking Tour Workshop was next on the agenda. About half of the students followed Levi and Blindie around, while he shared his knowledge of the town's history with them. For those of you who are confused who Blindie is-it's Levi's bumble bee tour guide umbrella. To make a long story short, Edel's mom's name is Bridie. However, Levi couldn't remember her name and kept calling her Blindie. Hence, Dan, Edel, and Taryn thought it was a perfect name for the umbrella. Sasha said the workshop was very interesting, but had a giggle or two over Blindie.
